RSS Bandit Future
I've posted my
current plans for RSS Bandit. Basically I want
to split the project into GUI and RSS processing
bits then hand off the GUI part of the project if I
can find a good steward. The only GUI feature I
feel that I need to add myself is the auto-updating
feature since that requires setting up a server and
other logistics. A few people have expressed
interest in reusing the RSS processing code but
dislike my GUI which is surprising given this is
the first Windows GUI app I've ever written.
Torsten Rendelmann has been chomping at the bit
to rewrite the GUI using the Magic
library and I'll see how that goes once I split
the project up.

Scalable
APIs and XML
A little while ago I wrote about
Scalable APIs and XML in the .NET Framework. So
it turns out that one of the editors of XML Journal
is a reader of my weekly ramblings and thought my
ideas were interesting enough for an article.
My
writing queue is pretty full but it would be
cool write down what I thought worked and didn't
work from an API perspective for our users. This
would be particularly useful for the design work
I'm currently doing involved in. Hopefully I can
start on this in the next two months.

Cutting of
Your Nose to Spite Your Face
Am I the only one that thinks
this is extremely petty? I'm glad I don't feel
obligated to avoid Sony products, certain Open
Source applications or the most popular search
engine in the world simply because they are
produced by competitors of the B0rg.

Subscriber Only Weblog
Posts
A
recent post on Joel Spolsky's weblog ends with
the following paragraphExcerpted from my latest
article, "Building Communities with Software,"
which will only be sent to email subscribers.

which will be sent out on Monday morning.
I'm perplexed as to why Joel would want to
restrict content to email-only subscribers. The
only reason to do this would be if he was
collecting email addresses for some sort of spam or
advertising purposes but Joel wouldn't jeopardize
his reputation for something as trifling as that. I
don't get it.
