I had some DNS issues last week because I forgot to renew my domain name registration. According to my FeedBurner statistics page, one of the consequences of this lapse on my part is that I've lost about 1,000 subscribers to my feed on Rojo. It looks like they may have decommissioned my feed in their service once the domain name stopped resolving after a couple of hours. This seems like a reasonable thing to do.

I've sent some mail to the Rojo folks through their feedback email address but don't hold out much for ever getting a response. It may be that there is nothing for them to fix since the relationship between my feed and the subscribers may have been deleted from their database once my domain was considered to be gone.

Anyway, if you are a Rojo user wondering why my feed disappeared from you subscription list, now you know.

Hi Dare,

I'm the Director of Engineering at Rojo... now at Six Apart. I know for sure that your feed isn't decomissioned in Rojo because I'm a subscriber and I have this story in my reading list :)

I queried our system and only see 37 subscribers. I assume Feed Burner takes its number from the "on behalf of N subscribers" string in our robot's user agent. If that's the case, I admit I'm a little confused. DNS trouble or not, your feed's URL is the same and the subscriber count shoulod not have changed. If you can share any more data about this event, please email me privately.

Andrew, I think Dare's feed has two separate aliases and the one that got dropped was the feed:http://www.25hoursaday.com/weblog/SyndicationService.asmx/GetRss one, which redirects to feeds.feedburner.com URL. Please feel free to contact me if you need any more data from us to help resolve this.
