I just saw the Best Slashdot Troll Yet, and was highly amused. What was truly funny was seeing all these people from MIT debunking the claim that such a project exists only for some Slashbots (or trolls?) to argue that it's possible for a project of that magnitude to be kept secret from the CS department's OS department by a "phantom" professor. Entertainment galore.

XML has become a pervasive part of significant segments of software development in a relatively short time. From file formats to network protocols to programming langauges, the influence of XML has been felt. I have written an overview of XML schemas, XML querying languages, XML-Enabled databases and native XML databases. Below is a shortened version of the article.

After reading approximately 50 stories on the events that occured on September 11th, most of which are ill-conceived and poorly written I have decided to remove K5 from my list of bookmarks until further notice.

The C# Programming language is an object-oriented language that is aimed at enabling programmers to quickly build a wide range of applications for the Microsoft .NET platform. The goal of C# and the .NET platform is to shorten development time by freeing the developer from worrying about several low level plumbing issues such as memory management, type safety issues, building low level libraries, array boundschecking , etc. thus allowing developers to actually spend their time and energy working on their application and business logic instead. As a Java developer the previous sentence could be described as "a short description of the Java language and platform" if the words C# and the .NET platform were replaced with words Java and the Java platform.

What follows is an overview of similarities and differences between the language features and libraries of the C# and Java programming languages.

Internship's almost over and thought I'd provide some catchup info for anyone who's read my diary in the past few months. Quick rundown; working at MSFT is kinda cool, I've meet BillG and questioned him about MSFT vs. the GPL & Linux, the city is great and I may try for a writing gig on MSDN.

My internship hunting situation has been updated with surprising results. I also realize that I was partially incorrect and rather obstinate in a recent thread on slashdot about compiling C/C++ programs against each others standard libraries.

I had a choice between picking an internship at i2 Technologies or going for a final round interview at Micro$oft for an internship and picked the internship at i2. This was against the advice of my mom who feels that having MSFT on my resumè is more important than some e-business shop. More details below.
